Volunteering at AVACreations

AVACreations has always been in the front for many years in engaging and participating in volunteer programs. During the year 2021, the AVACreations Social Impact Foundation was formed to adopt a comprehensive approach to addressing the problems of the forestry community through various interventions. These interventions involved specific activities, starting with imparting skill development, community engagement, and sustainable practices.

These activities being implemented are skill development through workshops and training sessions, community weaving cum production center, market access support, e-commerce platform, various awareness campaigns, financial literacy through microfinance, and promoting textile tourism and Experience Center in Assam.AVACreations manages and operates a volunteer program, and volunteers across the world have donated their time and skill to help our organization deliver its non-profit programs as well as support AVACreations reflections business churn out with the efforts of weavers and the artisan community.

We have supporters who volunteer remotely and many who have spent time in Guwahati headquarters situated at Matia Pahar, Azara, doing front-line work or experiencing the forest village where the product lifecycle can be traced and have the opportunity to learn and unwind with the forestry community.

Many of our volunteers have engaged with AVACreations via their university, perhaps as a part of their course, and corporations, government agencies, and civil societies as part of their CSR activities. AVACreations has partnerships with several universities, including NERIM, USTM, IIT Guwahati, NIFT, and Cotton University. Others have contacted AVACreations directly.

What is it like to work with AVACreation in Guwahati, Assam?
Many volunteers choose to travel to Guwahati and live in the city whilst working at AVACreations. Although this may sound daunting, AVACreations provides lots of support to volunteers who are new to India, including help with accommodation, transport, safety guidance, food, and more. Most volunteers who work in Guwahati do so for several weeks and months. During this time, you will learn about Assam and Northeast culture, the problems of the forestry community and their livelihood, and the AVACreations impact model, as well as have the chance to visit places of interest in and around Guwahati, Assam.

Pre-arrival Activities
Before arriving, volunteers work with AVACreations to prepare a list of activities they will be involved in. These activities can vary depending upon the needs of the organization at the time, but invariably involve a mixture of front-line work on AVACreations programs plus some back-office support. We try to align the activities to your particular interests and skills.

Base Location
Your base would be the AVACreation Experience Center in Guwahati, Assam, which has office headquarters at Matia Pahar, Azara, 5 KM away from Guwahati Airport. This is a safe area that has tourist attractions. Deepor Beel is located to the south-west of Guwahati city, in the Kamrup Metropolitan District of Assam, India. It is a permanent freshwater lake in a former channel of the Brahmaputra River, to the south of the main river, and there are numerous local eating places. We have WiFi, air conditioning, a small kitchen, and lots of space to work and relax. This is also where the AVACreations business is based, so you'll be able to meet most of the team from day one.

AVACreations is a relaxed organization with a family atmosphere. Although we will provide you with all the required guidance on the activities, we also encourage you to be bold and proactive!. We love people who ask lots of questions, talk about their ideas, and get themselves immersed! We seek involvement and encourage participation in our day-to-day work. In the past, volunteers have helped organize campaigns, events, and forest festivals. Volunteers have designed new fashion accessories for our business, helped with marketing elements and social media posts, run mentor sessions for our weavers and artisan kids, taught English and math, designed and run training programs... the list goes on!
